Cala Woods Residence

Inspired by a restored Napa Valley barn, this semi-rural residence draws on traditional vernacular forms. Low clustered buildings with steel roofing are clad with cedar board and batten siding with accents of stone and corrugated metal. The rustic exterior appearance is quickly shed as unexpected modern lines come to light on the inside. Steel, wood, and minimally detailed trusses span above a warm radiant heat concrete floor in a very livable footprint. Custom cabinets, hand-made tiles, and concrete countertops are the backbone of the gourmet kitchen. The detached accessory building hosts a guest room, painter’s studio, and wood-working shop.
